Our Best Moving Tips

After living in 6 different States over the past couple years, I think it’s fair to say that we are pretty good at moving. Moving can seem really overwhelming, but here are some quick tips to help make it a little bit easier, more organized, and less stressful.

  1. Declutter

Moving is the perfect time to declutter your life. If you still have those salt shakers shaped like cats in the back of your kitchen cabinet that someone gave you ten years ago and you’ve  never used, it’s time to let them go.  Use this opportunity to either sell the things you don’t need or donate to your favorite charity.

  1. Start your packing with things you don’t use often

Packing unfortunately takes time, so the earlier you can start the less stressed you will feel. Of course, the first things that you pack are not going to be the things that you use on a daily basis. A good place to start is your guest room or an office because those are things you can live without. Decor, or wall hangings are also good items to start packing up early.

  1. Save money on bubble wrap by using towels and t-shirts to wrap your breakables.
  1. Label your boxes on all 4 sides

During the course of moving, your boxes will get shuffled around. If you have labeled your box on all sides, it will save you a lot of stress later.  Label your box with the room it should go to and the contents.

  1. Pack a couple of days worth of things you may need

Pack clothes, towels, shower soaps, makeup, brushes etc. so that you can have the things that you absolutely need without worrying about finding the boxes for your most important items right away.

  1. Pack the truck like jenga

When you’re packing your things in the truck, make sure you think about how they will move as you are going down the road. You can use furniture or other boxes to make sure everything is wedged tightly and secured so nothing will take a tumble when accelerating and braking.

8. Have a moving party

Grab some pizza and beer and invite your friends over to help you! Have fun, play some of your favorite music and don’t forget to thank your friends and family for their time and effort.

Above all else, be patient with yourself, and be prepared to go to plan B if things go a little off course. You can do this! We would love to see your fun moving photos! Be sure to send them to us or tag us on social media!
